We are so excited to start this new ASG Alumni Spotlight series on our blog. Each Thursday, as a throwback, we will feature former gymnasts and coaches who have all left their own little mark on ASG. It’s a fun way for current families to see the rich history of Atlanta School of Gymnastics and for alumni to catch back up with those friends (and coaches) they grew up making memories with. We have had a great response to those wanting to participate so hope you enjoy!
Our first ASG Alumni spotlight is Rachel (Mann) Blanchard:
When did you attend ASG?
1985-2000
Did you pursue gymnastics following your time at ASG? If yes, where did you continue your gymnastics career?
Yes, in college at George Washington University.
What is your current occupation?
Nurse
What are your favorite memories from ASG?
I loved early morning practice in the summer, it was fun trying new skills. Phil letting us keep a dollar if we could keep it between our feet during a kip cast handstand. Doing bar routines with tennis shoes on?? Tom’s corny jokes and scratching his back on the tension wires. Back tuck stick contests. Dance warm-up with Tammy (why was that so hard?!). Going to Race Trac on break to get gatorade. Wonderful coaches that forever impacted my life…
What lessons have you taken away from the sport of gymnastics?
So many! The most valuable lessons I’ve learned are from my coaches and teammates. I’ve been lucky to have had so many great coaches. College coaches plus the ones from ASG - Tom, Delene, Phil, Tracey…all stand out in my mind as constant role models growing up.
What are your current hobbies and interests?
In this stage of life the kids are encompassing 🙂
Great looking family Rach!! I am so glad you reminded me of those fun summer workouts with Tom scratching his back on the tensions!! Too funny!!
