We continue our ASG Alumni Spotlight series, where we feature former gymnasts and coaches who have all left their own little mark on ASG. It’s a fun way for current families to see the rich history of Atlanta School of Gymnastics and for alumni to catch back up with those friends (and coaches) they grew up making memories with. We have had a great response to those wanting to participate so hope you enjoy!
Today’s ASG Alumni spotlight is on former ASG coach, Adam Adams:
When did you attend ASG?
Coached from 1985 through 1990
Did you pursue gymnastics following your time at ASG? If yes, where did you continue your gymnastics career?
Helped open The Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta (GAA) in 1990 and coached there until 1999
What post-ASG accomplishments or highlights, gymnastics-related or not, are you most proud of?
Attended the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain and performed in the ceremonies.
What is your current occupation?
After managing ROXX Tavern for 14 years, I recently returned to The Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta in August of 2015
What are your favorite memories from ASG?
Choreographing some of the most memorable floor routines of my career. (Oh, and there is that spring break when Tommy Capps, Joe Strank, Dr. Milhouse, and myself went to Panama City. I think we slept in a van…it’s all a little vague).
What lessons have you taken away from the sport of gymnastics?
Gymnastics is for now, and Life is for a lot longer. Prepare and work hard for success in the first and you will definitely be better prepared to succeed in the second.
What are your current hobbies and interests?
Taking care of and constantly trying to improve my yard (OMG - I sound so old).
Please tell us some interesting or fun things about yourself.
- I had BOTH of my hips replaced (at the same time) in 1999.
- I still take ballet class every Monday at Dance 101.
- I’m working on restoring a log cabin that was built in the 1840’s in the Ozark Mts. of Arkansas.
