Join Our Award Winning Team! #1 in Atlanta since 1976 The Atlanta School of Gymnastics Boys Team is very proud to be in its twenty-sixth year of existence. Our coaches and boys have proven over the years to have the dedication, the discipline, the focus, and the hard work needed to excel in this difficult sport. Our 2005-2006 team consists of 18 competing team members, level five through ten. The ASG boys team coaches are Nathan Simmons and Spencer Slaton. Nathan started coaching in 1985. Spencer Slaton, a former ASG gymnast and national team member, joined the boys team coaching staff in January 2003. We have enjoyed the opportunities and challenges of working with a wide variety of athletes, and watching them grow through gymnastics, and in life. We hope that our belief in the artistry of gymnastics, the discipline, and proper technique is visible in the performances of our gymnasts. In the early days the team was ranked the number one boys team in the US, winning the then National Boys’ Invitational in 1983 and 1985 and placing second in 1984. More recently, Michael Ashe was the National Champion in 1999 and won a Silver Medal at the Pan Am Games and is a two-time NCAA High Bar Champion, while Todd Strada, who is now on the University of Iowa Men’s Team, was Third in the NCAA Championship in 1999. The Boys Team has had 9 boys on the US National Team. Kevin Davis was on the 1989 World Championship Team and the 1992 Olympic Team. Patrick Kirksey was the 1989 NCAA Gymnastics Champion and competed on the 1989 and 1991 US World Championship team. Todd Strada was the US National Champion on rings in 1996. Over the years, 22 ASG Boys have won full University Scholarships in gymnastics attending UCLA at Berkley, The US Air Force Academy, The University of Illinois, The Universities of Iowa, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Georgia, Illinois, Kent State, Penn State, Jackson State, Northern Illinois, Ca. State at Fullerton, New Mexico, Michigan State, Temple and the US Military Academy at West Point. Through all these years our coaches have nurtured many outstanding athletes and their success is a direct result of their dedication to the Boys Team and the sport of gymnastics. ![]()
